What's Inside Viettel IDC's Standard Server Hosting Area?
Standard Rack Server Layout
When you visit the standard server hosting area at Viettel IDC, you’ll notice racks arranged in rows, each labeled for easy identification and management. The front of each rack faces the cool air, while the back faces the hot air. The racks are positioned front to front and back to back. The distance between the fronts is 1,400mm, while the distance between the backs is 1,200mm—standard spacing for a compliant server setup.
Additionally, since a standard server area houses multiple servers and equipment, all components are labeled and barcoded for efficient management and to avoid confusion.
Between the rows of racks, Viettel IDC installs specialized lights, each with a luminous flux of 3000 lumens per bulb (one bulb per light). These lights are mounted 1.4 meters from the ceiling and 1 meter from the floor. Except for the entry door, each server room is constructed with 220mm-thick brick walls. This rack layout not only facilitates efficient server management but also optimizes server performance.
Backup Power Supply (UPS)
A UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) ensures the continuous flow of electricity and powers the system during outages until the generators take over. Without this, a server service cannot be considered compliant.

For the UPS backup system at Viettel IDC, it provides at least 15 minutes of power to the center and fully meets Tier 4 standards. The UPS system includes 4 units per floor, with 2 primary and 2 backup units. These are all online UPS systems, meaning they operate on a double conversion principle: converting AC to DC, then back from DC to AC. This ensures that the power supplied is entirely generated by the UPS, maintaining stability in both voltage and frequency. Additionally, the devices powered by the UPS are fully isolated from fluctuations in the power grid. This guarantees the longevity and smooth operation of the standard servers provided to customers.
Monitoring System
The monitoring system consists of devices installed in the standard server area that track and supervise the entire system 24/7. If any risks arise, the system alerts administrators, allowing them to take immediate action.
The Tier III monitoring system includes:
- Monitoring screens
- Alarm systems
- Surveillance cameras
- Computers for staff, connected to monitoring servers
- A rack containing servers for the monitoring, security, and fire systems
- Control cabinets for these systems
In addition to these core infrastructures, there are many other essential components that ensure long-term operation, security, redundancy, and maximum efficiency for the standard server system within the data center.

Electrical System
- The electrical system is one of the most critical aspects of creating a compliant server hosting area. A stable power supply ensures the system operates continuously, 24/7.
- The electrical system is designed with N+1 redundancy, typically featuring two separate substations, backup generators, and UPS to guarantee continuous power, even in the event of an issue.
- The system generally includes:
