Viettel IDC joins Vietnal – Asia DX Summit 2024: “Digital & Green Transformation, Developing Digital Economy”

During the two days 28, 29 in June 2024, the Vietnam - Asia DX Summit 2024 officially took place with the theme called “Digital & Green Transformation, Developing Digital Economy”. This is an annual national and international event organized by VINASA under the sponsorship of the Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communications. The summit was attended by Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang and Vietnamese Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung. The forum successfully took place with 7 seminar sessions, 10 exhibition booths and various trade connection activities. Besides, the forum was also attended by 50 speakers, experts and nearly 2,000 leaders, business managers and delegates from 17 economies in the region, 35 provinces and cities across the country.
 
At the seminar named “Effective management and operation of businesses and organizations based on data; Digital - green transformation: Strategy, standards, effective implementation”, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tuan, Head of Viettel IDC Technical Department had an impressive sharing on the topic called Green Data Center - Future Trend. He said: “Data center development is forecast to explode in the near future in Vietnam because of the need to promote digital transformation, digital government, digital economy, digital society and digital businesses. However, the development of data centers also creates various environmental challenges due to the huge amount of electricity consumed. The trend of Green data centers is to apply new technologies and solutions to save energy, to be safe and durable. Therefore, sustainability is indispensable to achieve the dual goal of Digital Transformation and Green Transformation.

As a leading telecommunications technology corporation in Vietnam with the philosophy "Business links with social responsibility", Viettel is clearly aware of the inevitability of sustainable development. Viettel IDC, which is a member of the Military Industry and Telecoms Group (Viettel), is a pioneer in applying new technologies and solutions to save energy and be environmentally friendly, ensuring efficiency. For example, optimal energy use is achieved at Viettel Hoa Lac Data Center with the PuE index keeping below 1,5, 12% lower than existing data centers in Vietnam. Viettel Hoa Lac Data Center, which is the Viettel IDC's newest data center, opened in April this year. In 2023, Viettel IDC saved nearly 3,000,000 kWh in operating data centers, equivalent to reducing about 2,100 tons of CO2 emissions. In particular, this June, Viettel IDC pioneered to become the first Cloud Computing and Data Center service provider in Vietnam to publish a Sustainability Report.

In addition to the speech at the Conference, the representative of Viettel IDC also joined in the discussion at the seminar named “Green Finance for Sustainable Development”. Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tuan, along with representatives from World Bank, FPT IS, BIDV, MoMo, IFC, VNBA (Vietnam Banking Association) discussed the potential, current situation and solutions to develop green finance and credit in Vietnam. The content discussed at the seminar has helped in green finance and credit for businesses. Besides, Viettel IDC’s representative shared the story of Viettel Hoa Lac Data Center, which is the Data center with “green capital” and the first data center in Vietnam to receive green credit sponsorship from HSBC bank.
 

Previously, sharing in the opening session of the Vietnam - Asia DX Summit 2024 on the afternoon of May 28, 2024, comrade Le Ba Tan, Head of the Technical Department of Military Industry and Telecoms Group also proposed that the Government should soon issue specific regulations on sustainable development for telecommunications businesses, including evaluation criteria, reporting and financial support for businesses when they carry out sustainable development projects and comply with the above regulations. In addition, the Government should also encourage businesses to apply international standards on sustainable development, such as the GRI Standards on Sustainability Report or the United Nations UN Global Compact, etc to demonstrate social responsibility and enhance the image and reputation of Vietnamese businesses in the international market.
 
In addition, Viettel’s representatives also delivered 2 speeches in the seminars on the implementation of e-commerce and Viettel's achievements and development orientation of semiconductor technology. The initiatives and solutions that Viettel presented at the Vietnam - Asia DX Summit 2024 not only bring great advances in the field of technology but also make important contributions to improving the quality of life and creating sustainable values ​​for the community. Viettel's active role at this forum is clear evidence of the Group's strong commitment to business development and efforts to preserve the environment for the future generations.
