Viettel IDC accompanies Viettel Telecom to build a mail server system solution on AWS

Overview

Viettel Telecom is one of the leading telecommunications companies in Vietnam, a pioneer in leading technology and telecommunications trends (4G, 5G, IoT,...). In addition to focusing on mobile networks and fiber optic Internet/TV networks, the company also approaches information technology solutions and other digital services to meet custome’s needs.

In particular, among Viettel Telecom's services, it is impossible not to mention the solution to support customers in the digital transformation journey such as electronic invoices (Sinvoice), digital signatures (CA), e-Contract Authentication solution (vContract), etc. These services are currently provided to hundreds of thousands of corporate customers throughout Vietnam.

To satisfy the requirements for VAS, Viettel Telecom has trusted to use the Viettel IDC- provided solution that uses Amazon Simple Email Service - Amazon SES integrated with the mail server system and the current software system of Viettel Telecom to send emails to end users quickly, accurately and efficiently.

The system overload challenge when the number of customers is rapidly increasing

In the context of IT solutions attached big importance to development by Viettel Telecom during this time and the dramatically growing number of customers, the two main products that had been developed and witnessed the fastest increase in the number of customers were the electronic contract authentication solution (vContract) and the electrical invoice (S-invoice). Until now, thesel two products have reached nearly 400,000 businesses, with millions of emails sent every day and this number is constantly increasing.

This leads to the problem that the old email infrastructure deployed by Viettel Telecom cannot serve this huge number, causing the system to be overloaded. Therefore, the urgent need of Viettel Telecom is to immediately upgrate to a reputable email sending system, quickly deploying and not limiting the number of outgoing emails.

To solve this problem, Viettel Telecom has cooperated with Viettel IDC to find a solution to quickly replace the old mailing system, and at the same time ensure a reputable, economical and scalable system that can quickly meet business demand.

Service to meet the needs of sending emails in large numbers

Recognizing the problem of Viettel Telecom, the AWS solution architect team of Viettel IDC has conducted a survey and successfully consulted Viettel Telecom about the solution of using Amazon Simple Email Service- Amazon (SES).

Amazon Simple Email Service (SES) is a cost-effective, bulk email delivery service built on top of a reliable, scalable infrastructure developed by Amazon. With Amazon SES, customers can use a variety of solutions such as: sending emails about transactions, marketing messages, autoresponders, or any other content.

Amazon SES allows integration with customers' existing mail servers and software systems, and sends bulk emails to end users. After the customer agreed with the proposed solution, Viettel IDC's technical team has implemented, supported the integration and performed monitoring of of the use of SES later for customers.

Solving overloaded system problems with cost savings

With the use of AWS SES solution, along with the consulting and support of Viettel IDC experts, Viettel Telecom quickly solved the problem of overloading the current outgoing email system very quickly that ensures the system's ability to expand many times over when SES allows sending up to billions of emails per month. Besides, SES also has an extremely economical price with 0.1 USD (equivalent to over 2,000 VND) for 1,000 outgoing emails, $ 0.12 for 1 GB of email capacity including attachments. SES also ensures financial transparency like most other AWS services, it is a “pay as you go’’ service.

In addition, the solution also offers high reliability and email receipt rate helping to save significant costs compared to the customer's old on-premise system, which has no control over the reliability and rate of mail receipt.
